Virginia Mowery

Councillor

Hi, I’m Virginia Mowery, and St. Walburg is my hometown. I moved away after high school and lived everywhere from Fort McMurray, Alberta, to Hamilton, Ontario. Living in cities gave me a better appreciation for where I grew up. I was happy to move back home four years ago and reconnect with family and old friends.

As a Canada Scholar in Science and Engineering and having worked in education for most of my career, I have a passion for education and believe it’s important to give our youth every advantage we can as they move out into the world. Education doesn’t just take place within the school but also within the community, and we need to provide opportunities that will prepare them for the future.

I have also worked within the construction industry and am focused on affordable housing, which I see a real need for. I believe our long-term sustainability depends in part on attracting businesses, jobs, and residents to St. Walburg, but we also have to be mindful of the direction we want to take. It’s vital as we move further into the 21st century that we are progressive in our thinking, keeping pace with the wider world, while making sure we retain the values and charm of our town.
